Marvin Sapp Readies for New Recording —Verity Gospel Music Group recording artist Marvin Sapp is gearing up for his next recording. The live session takes place at Evangel Cathedral in Upper Marlboro, MD on October 7, 2011. This marks Sapp's first live recording outside of his hometown of Grand Rapids, MI and the first since the passing of his wife Dr. Malinda Sapp. Aaron Lindsay is returning to produce the session with Myron Butler serving as vocal director. Look for the new effort to hit stores in the Spring of 2012.
BENEFIT CONCERT FOR TORNADO VICTIMS FEAT ISRAEL HOUGHTON, CANTON JONES & THREE60 - Plans are underway for the “Spirit & Truth Benefit” Concert, with Opening Acts Three60, Canton Jones, and with Headliner Israel Houghton. The purpose of this concert is to help raise funds for the AL &GA Tornado Victims, who were directly, impacted by the category 5 tornados.The tornados claimed over 238 lives, wounded hundreds and will require hundreds of millions to rebuild homes, schools, churches and businesses.
Shei Atkins leaves the Gospel genre for R&B
Grammy Award nominated gospel artist Shei Atkins is leaving the gospel genre for R&B. She has a new CD, “Emotional” that is due out soon.
Shei recently gave details behind her decision in a letter posted on DASouth.com. Here is an excerpt from that letter:
Shei states that “I had fans who loved me on one side and people condemning me on the other side calling me worldly, pulling me to the side at some of my shows about my hair color, sending in mean letters, etc. I understand that everyone wouldn’t see my vision, but it got to the point to where I just wanted to give up. I wasn’t doing anything wrong, BUT I wasn’t embraced by gospel all the way, and looking back, I can see where the confusion came in.”
Music World Signs Sunday Best Winner LeAndria Johnson —Music World Gospel has announced the signing of BET Sunday Best Season 3 winner LeAndria Johnson to a recording contract. The artist has just released her first single to radio titled "Jesus", with her full length release, The Awakening of LeAndria Johnson, due to hit stores September 6. In addition, the label will be home to the winner of Season 4 of the hit music competition series. The imprint will also produce special Sunday Best projects, to include a "best of" compilation.
